Our Mission
Cheyenne Mountain Public Broadcast House, Inc., via Classical KCME and Jazz 93.5 FM, is a trusted source of quality music and arts content for the people of Colorado Springs and Southern Colorado. We are dedicated to a vital cultural community by sharing the artistic voices of Colorado Springs and the world, through broadcasting, digital platforms and community engagement.
Our History
Today, Cheyenne Mountain Public Broadcast House, Inc., operates Classical 88.7 & Jazz 93.5, two independent public sister stations that serve our communities with quality music 24/7, 7 days a week.
However, KCME Classical 88.7 has long been a staple of Colorado Spring’s musical communities. Founded in a Manitou home, Charles “Bud” Edmonds established KCME in1977, with the station signing on for the first time on December 24th of 1979.
In its first 26 years KCME Classical provided an abundance of quality classical music, while offering equally appealing jazz programming on Saturday mornings and evenings. In 1990 KCME moved to the current frequency of 88.7 MHz. A few years later moving the station to downtown Colorado Springs where it remains today.
In 2007, the jazz programming on Saturdays was dropped due to various technical and operational obstacles and decisions. In October of 2017 KCME was able to create its full-time jazz station, Jazz 93.5.
Since 2017 KCME Classical 88.7 and Jazz 93.5 have been reliable sources of quality programming. Today we aim to support the arts communities and organizations in the Pikes Peak Region. Having expanded our services to communities that have expressed a desire to hear the station, we are now able to serve the El Paso and Chaffe Counties, with KCME Classical reaching as far as Summit and Fremont County. And now via internet streaming Classical 88.7 and Jazz 93.5 can reach listeners worldwide to share locally curated programming and local performances.
With its studios now located in, KCME’s operating revenues are derived from membership drives and from the sale of on-air program sponsorship announcements to community-minded businesses, thus assuring that its support comes from the community it serves.
