July 12th | Opera Bus Pre-Event “What’s All the Singing About?”

Sunday, July 12th 2026 | 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. | KCME Station, 1921 N Weber St, Colorado Springs, CO 80907

Once infamously described as “an exotic and irrational entertainment,” what we know as opera was originally conceived as a union of several arts: poetry, music, acting, stagecraft, and dance. Four hundred years later, is opera still relevant? Why does it persist? As Robert Benchley once remarked, “Opera is where a guy gets stabbed in the back, and instead of dying, he sings.” So let’s explore what the singing is about and what it’s been like throughout the history of this unique art form.

Admission is $40 for a single entry or $70 for two and can be obtained by selecting entry as a thank-you gift when donating on our website: www.kcme.org OR you can email/call our office at membership@kcme.org/719-578-5263.

July 18th | Opera Bus to Central City Opera, The Ballad of Baby Doe

Saturday, July 18th 2026 | All day Event | Departing from KCME station (1921 N Weber St, Colorado Springs, CO 80907) at 10:00 a.m. to Central City.

In 2026, three anniversaries converge on a single stage: America turns 250, Colorado celebrates 150 years of statehood, and The Ballad of Baby Doe marks 70 years since its world premiere at Central City Opera. Based on the true story of silver baron Horace Tabor and the young woman who scandalized Denver society to be with him, this epic American opera captures pioneering ambition, passionate love, and devotion that outlasted fortune itself. Legendary soprano and CCO alumna Cynthia Lawrence directs this brand-new production—your chance to discover Baby Doe for the first time, or fall in love with it all over again. In collaboration with KCME, Central City Opera presents a special package for this occasion: bus from KCME headquarters in Colorado Springs to see The Ballad of Baby Doe. Availability is limited, so reserve your package today.

Admission is handled by CCO, call 303-292-6700 to purchase yours today.
